Dr Robert Bals

Dr. Robert Bals is Professor and Head of the Department of Internal Medicine V at the Saarland University. Following studies of medicine and biology he obtain doctoral degrees in both areas. He is clinically trained at the Universities of Munich and Marburg and is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonology, intensive care medicine, allergology, sleep medicine, and infectious diseases. As postdoctoral fellow he worked at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2010 he is the director of the pulmonary department at the University Hospital of the Saarland. Between 2010 and 2013 he serves as research director of the European Respiratory Society.  He published numerous book articles and more than 120 scientific papers.
